Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne won the Formula E title for the Mercedes team departing on Sunday as the electric motor racing championship ending its eighth season with the 100th race in its history.
The second of two E-prix awards in Seoul also ends an era of FIA-approved series, with a ninth season in 2023 introducing a new generation of faster, lighter and more economical cars more energy.
Former McLaren F1 driver Vandoorne started in fourth and finished in second place in Sunday’s race in and around the South Korean capital’s Olympic stadium to claim his first championship by far. Mitch Evans 33 points in the Jaguar.
New Zealander Evans, who went on to win from Tuesday on Saturday to close the gap to 21 points, is seventh after only getting past the 13th qualifying round for a race he must win while hoping Vandoorne hopes to finish outside the top seven.

Vandoorne has only won once in 2022, at Monaco, with Evans and Mortara each scoring four goals.
England’s Jake Dennis finished third on Sunday for Avalanche Andretti after finishing second on the road but was fined five seconds for causing a collision that dropped batsman Antonio Felix da Costa in the back of the pack.
Mercedes EQ, who retained the team title against Venturi and DS Techeetah, sold their outfits to McLaren and departed Formula E with a high record after winning both championships for the second year in a row.
