Metal Gear Solid Creator and Death Stranding Director Hideo Kojima and Metal Gear Solid publisher Konami break up together in 2015 and since then there have been no major entries in the popular MGS series (although there have been Metal Gear Survive is not so good in 2018).
While there’s no reason to believe that Kojima and Konami will be teaming up again anytime soon, it looks like Konami is gearing up for some form of a return to MGS. Longtime MGS producer Noriaki Okamura wrote in a recent issue of the magazine Famitsu that “2023 will be a year of many announcements”, as reported by gemstone.
In this year-end special issue of Famitsu, many Japanese developers and manufacturers wrote quick introductions to what 2023 could bring them. It was here that Okamura revealed that 2023 will be the year of announcements for Konami Digital Entertainment. More specifically, he said “Different from [the educational edition of Momotaro Dentetsu announced last year]2023 will be a year of many announcements” and his keyword for 2023 is “long-awaited”, as noted by gemstone.
Now, this might just be his way of saying that Konami in general will make some announcements and maybe some of them will be long-awaited by fans. However, since Okamura himself – a longtime MGS manufacturer – says this, there is reason to believe that he may be hinting at the return of the MGS line. Maybe we’re getting a remake of one of the games, or maybe a new mainline. Only time will tell.
