Mets Block Ryan – Haney First pitch after the Empire State Building brawl
The Mets organization reportedly chose not to allow Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney to throw out the first pitch following their violent incident on the roof of the Empire State Building.
Haney's Shove: A Marketing Mistake
Garcia and Haney were scheduled to throw first base in the New York Mets' game against the Pittsburgh Pirates today at Citi Field, but the organization canceled those plans.
According to Chris Mannix above X, New York Mets officials “did not want to risk an incident on the field” after Haney and Ryan were involved in a violent incident today on the roof of the Empire State Building. The Mets wanted to avoid the possibility of further violence.
There was a scuffle and Devin's dad, Bill Haney, talked about Dev possibly “killing” Ryan on Saturday. Talk about adding fuel to the fire. Why did Bill say that?
Lost opportunities, lost revenue
Haney violently shoved Ryan in the face during a confrontation, reacting to some trash talk. In retrospect, that push by Haney messed things up for him and Ryan, as it could have given Barclays Center in Brooklyn a much-needed boost in ticket sales and boosted buy-in. DAZN PPV.
This was a terrible move by Haney, who ruined everything by acting out instead of controlling his emotions. This is not the right way for Haney to get people interested in his fights. Haney sabotaged everything, which was a costly move.
This is not a good thing as Ryan Garcia, Haney, DAZN and Golde Boy Promotions lost out on the chance to get some exposure at a Mets-Pirates game, potentially televised in the New York area.
It's unclear whether Ryan and Haney planned the brawl atop the Empire State Building. If they both came up with this way to sell tickets and buy PPVs on DAZN, they committed a crime.
Haney needs an image overhaul
If this is a scripted deal between Ryan and Garcia to keep fans interested in their fight then it's stupid. That trash doesn't sell matches because fans already consider it fake.
Devin knocked Vasily Lomachenko down last year during a confrontation, pushing him hard enough to hit him in the head.
Haney can, with his money, afford a PR guy who can come up with good ideas to help promote without having to knock down opponents in confrontations. There are better ways to promote fighting than pushing. The strange thing is that Haney did not learn any lessons from the violent altercation with Lomachenko last year. Does he not understand that?
Haney's support system: Is Bill helping or hurting?
Devin's dad, Bill, does a lot of the talking for him, but he should get a public relations team to help. Bill's trash talk fails to connect with everyone because he tends to go off topic, talking about things that have nothing to do with his son.
Bill talks about Devin killing Ryan on Saturday. Not that he didn't help fuel his son's fight with that weird talk.
If Haney is going to be a star, he needs someone who knows what they're doing to help market his fights. He can't depend on his dad or him pushing opponents to generate interest in his career.
