Mexico’s Chaka Rodriguez reveals social media threats sent to family after USMNT’s defeat
Mexico international Luis “Chaka” Rodriguez shared death threats directed at his wife and family on social media following last Friday’s World Cup qualifying defeat USA.
Before Mexico’s World Cup qualifiers at Canada on Tuesday, the right-back for Tigres, a Christian, sent a message to the account – named Miguel – asking him to stop sending threatening threats to his wife on social media.

“Miguel, I am the husband of the wife you wrote to,” wrote Rodriguez (in Spanish) on Instagram. “I understand that my work on the national team could be the cause of all of this in you. I don’t justify it, but I get it.
“I’m asking you to please stop writing to my wife, rape and murder are cruel words. Miguel, we don’t deserve this, at least not including the family. I hope hope this is over. God bless you.” “
Threatening messages posted after Rodriguez started in Mexico Lost 2-0 against the United States in Friday’s World Cup qualifiers in Cincinnati.
The result made Mexico lose the top position of the CONCACAF group in terms of goal difference, the two teams currently have 14 points after seven matches.
With the threats continuing, Rodriguez decided to share annoying messages his wife accepted. Despite a rough couple of days for Rodriguez, he’s kept his form steady.
“Honestly, I take into account the positives and negatives …”, wrote Rodriguez. “Football was and always will be a dream come true for me. Leaving the national team is not an option for me.”
