Miami Grand Prix wants to create a ‘this is different’ vibe
The organizer of the upcoming Miami Grand Prix wanted to create a standout event completely unique to the Formula One schedule.
Miami will host its first F1 race on May 8 on a lap around Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins.
A computerized rendering of the circuit was released on Tuesday showing the scale of the circuit and what will be on offer for fans around the yard, featuring a Monte Carlo Marina with a collection of moored yachts. parking and a temporary beach with swimming pool.
Tom Garinkel, Miami Dolphins CEO and event organizer, desperately wants the race to be different from anything F1 has had before.
“Bringing the glamor and elegance of Formula 1 and the technology of F1 racing to a dynamic, growing city like Miami right now is amazing,” Garfinkel said in the promotional video.
“The idea is how do you create a race where people who are used to racing think ‘this is different, this is fun, this is fun’. I think, first of all, it’s about Miami.
“Miami Gardens, and indeed the entire south of Florida, it becomes the curator of culture when you talk about fashion and art, music, food and sports. It’s a very fascinating place.
“I think from a racing standpoint we are presenting the best racing in the world and its technology, the best engineering, the best cars and the best drivers, potentially a large group of people who have never joined or seen it before.
“I think that can have a big impact on people’s lives.”
F1 is booming in the US right now, thanks to a wave of popularity generated in large part by Netflix’s Drive to Survive series.
Earlier this month, F1 confirmed it would race down to the Las Vegas strip in 2023, meaning there will be three US races in a season for the first time since 1981.
