Michelle Jubelirer premieres new-look Capitol Music Group at Town Hall event – including the return of Motown
Capital group (CMG) has plenty of big new artist projects coming out in 2023 – and a new roster of in-house partners and record labels.
That was the overarching message from a City Hall event presented by Universal-owned by the airline in Los Angeles on Tuesday (January 31), led by CMG CEO and President Michelle Jubelirer.
Perhaps the most notable structural change at the ‘new’ Capitol Music Group is, as confirmed by Jubelirer, the return of the legendary Motown label to CMG.
Motown is detached of CMG in 2021 at Universal as its own front-line entity, but subject to start of the brand’s chief executive officer, Ethiopialast year, it has now returned to CMG as an active subsidiary.
During her introductory remarks at City Hall, Jubelirer greeted attendees and introduced the afternoon to new music and projects slated for release in the coming months.
She said the company’s momentum and tenacity has “invigorated Capitol Music Group and positioned us to compete on any deal, forging new and beneficial partnerships, at the same time disrupting artists in almost every genre of popular music.”
Jubelirer continued: “The most enjoyable part of working in music is watching its creators grow and shine – so let’s take this afternoon to celebrate all of us. How fortunate to have such a vibrant and talented team of artists. I couldn’t be more excited about this new year as we continue to build the future of Capitol Music Group together.”
Attendees at City Hall were introduced to new music from CMG Motown, Blue Note, Astralwerks and Capitol Christian Music Group labels, as well as independent label – and CMG partners – Project 10K.
Additionally, City Hall watched a thank you video by Katy Perry, Natalie Jane, Lewis Capaldi and Queen Naija.
The event saw a performance by acclaimed 10K Projects artist Ice Spice, as well as an on-stage conversation between Capitol Records/TDE artist Doechii and Spotifyby Carl Cherry.
Other highlights include:
- Performance by Capitol recording artist Masego;
- Chat with the founder and CEO of 10K Projects Elliot Graingeand 10K Project presidents Zach Friedman and Tony Talamo;
- New musical performances for the first time in three years by Capitol recording artist Niall Horan, including his brand new single, “Heaven”;
