Mineral production up 3% in December 2021

The country’s mineral production rose 2.6% in December 2021 from the corresponding month of last year, as the mining and quarrying sector’s mineral production index stood at 120.3 during the period under consideration.
According to the provisional statistics of the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), there has been a cumulative growth of 16% in the period from April to December 2021-22 compared to the same period last year.
Data released by the Ministry of Mines shows that production levels of important minerals in December 2021 include coal 748 thousand tons, lignite 39,000 tons, natural gas (used) 2,814 million m3 and oil (crude) 25 thousand tons.
Production of key minerals showing year-on-year growth throughout December 2021 includes magnesite (73.2%), gold (71.0%), bauxite (27.1%) and lignite (21 ,4%).
The production of other important minerals with negative growth are: petroleum (Crude) (-1.8%), zinc (-4.3%), iron ore (-6.2%) and metals diamond (-97.6%), further data shows.
