When asked about the challenges associated with the use of electric vehicles, he said, “The problem that is being talked about is that it consumes more time (to charge the battery of e-vehicles). ARAI was directed. In fact, they have developed a prototype of a fast charger and the product is expected to be ready by December 2022.”
He also announced that ARAI has been asked to complete the project by October 2022, so that it can be delivered to customers by December. The fast chargers will solve the problem of charging infrastructure and promote demand for battery-powered vehicles. The minister also said that research is still underway and the specific charging time of two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers can only be determined after completion.
He also mentioned that his ministry is also in talks with the Ministry of Oil and Natural Gas to install EV chargers at 22,000 petrol pumps across India. Charging stations will be installed 25 km apart on highways and within a radius of 3 km in cities.
