Missile hits ‘crowded’ shopping mall in Eastern Ukraine, death toll reported
Kyiv, Ukraine:
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that a Russian missile strike hit a crowded shopping center in the city of Kremenchuk, central Ukraine on Monday.
He said more than 1,000 people were in the mall at the time of the attack. He did not give details of casualties but said: “It is impossible even to imagine the number of victims.”
“It is useless to hope for decency and humanity from Russia,” Zelenskiy wrote on Telegram.
City mayor Vitaliy Meletskiy said the strike had left many people dead and injured, but gave no figures.
Kremenchuk, an industrial city with a population of 217,000 before Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, is home to Ukraine’s largest oil refinery.
