Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is now sold out but still in stock
Limited supply Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV sold out this year, but the company is confident it will receive significantly more in 2023.
It is understood that the allocation of around 400 Outlander PHEVs to Australia this year ran out within a month, leaving many potential buyers waiting.
“Our biggest problem right now is supply,” said Tim Clarke, Head of E-Mobility Strategy at Mitsubishi Motors Australia.
“When MY22 was released, our allocation was sold out in the first month. We are working hard to triple or quadruple [that] for the ’23 model year,” he added, while pointing out that this still won’t meet the expected demand.
We understand that at this stage, about 1500 to 2000 units Outlander PHEV recently updated will be here in 2023, in installments.
The second-generation petrol-electric midsize SUV debuted in August, offering a much better EV range than its predecessor and a more upscale interior, befitting the higher price point.
As previously announced, pricing for the 2023 Outlander PHEV has gone up to $1500, with the range now starting at $55,490 before on-road costs for the five-seat ES and expanding to $69,990 before on-road costs for the Exceed Tourer seven seats.
While Mitsubishi says it is seeing strong demand for both the Outlander and Eclipse Cross PHEVthis is not really reflected in the broader market.
The annual sales of PHEVs across the market are 5477 units. Although that number is up around 80% in 2021, compared with sales of 28,236 electric vehicles and 74,704 conventional hybrids.
On a separate note, Mitsubishi said it wanted to see more clearly around fuel consumption in these petrol-electric PHEVs.
This means more public disclosure of the fuel economy performance of the PHEV with zero battery charge (shown), as well as its economy with the battery in use.
