MLA Rebel Congress Aditi Singh Joins BJP Before Poll

Aditi Singh is the MLA from the state Rae Bareli Council constituency.

Rebel UP Congress Leader Aditi Singh – MLA from the state’s Rae Bareli Council constituency – joined the ruling BJP in Lucknow.

The move comes months before an election in the politically pivotal country, in which the BJP is bidding for re-election in the face of massive protests by farmers against agricultural laws, as well as demonstrations against the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, such as fuel and vegetables. .

An increasingly vocal critic of Congress and its leadership, Aditi Singh last week criticized senior leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for questioning the controversial agricultural law.

“Priyanka Gandhi had trouble when bills were introduced. She had trouble when the law was repealed. What did she want? She should be clear. She is just politicizing the problem. She is now. has run out of problems to politicize,” Aditi Singh was quoted as saying by ANI news agency.

“On the issue of Lakhimpur (where farmers were driven by a convoy believed to be driven by the son of the Union Minister) and other related matters, Priyanka Gandhi has always politicized it. The CBI investigation is ongoing. being conducted in the Lakhimpur case… The Supreme Court is scrutinizing it. If she doesn’t trust the institutions, I can’t understand who she trusts?” she continued.

Aditi Singh, 34, was suspended from the women’s wing of the party last May.

Rae Bareli is the stronghold of Parliament; it has voted for the party in every election in Lok Sabha since 1980 (exceptions were in 1996 and 1998, when Ashok Singh of the BJP was elected).

Voting for the Rae Bareli Council seat has followed a similar pattern, with the National Assembly having claimed it four times in the last six elections. The two times it failed was in 2007 and 2012, when Parliament leader was expelled then Akhilesh Kumar Singh won the election for the fourth and fifth time.

Aditi Singh is the daughter of Akhilesh Kumar Singh. She won her seat in 2017 with her ticket to Parliament, beating BSP’s Shahbaz Khan by almost 90,000 votes.

BJP candidate – Anita Srivastava – came in third, with more than ten thousand votes.

The ruling party will be hoping the introduction of Aditi Singh will help topple the fortress of Parliament, which will be a hugely important outcome, if that happens.
