Although Mo Donegal scored will go further than fellow Remsen participant Fromanothamutha , he didn’t look like a winner until late at night. Zandon (Start up ) has yet to be routed but finished as a horse with sustained power in his debut win of six on 9 October in Belmont. After hitting the gate at the top, he picked up pace in fourth along the inside and finished well as he translated outside the leader to take a 1 1/2-length lead.
Coach Chad Brown, who won the 2014 Remsen with Leave the lights on , believes that Zandon will appreciate the extra distance.
“He ran once with six laps and he won, but I’ve always thought of him as a pure road horse,” Brown said. “The fact that he was able to go 3/4, I was pretty impressed. I thought he was going to be a late runner and needed to start, but he won. I’m pretty impressed by that. because I don’t ‘don’t think that’s what he wants to do.”
Zandon, a $170,000 purchase from last year’s September Sale in Keeneland from Brereton C. Jones breeder Brereton C. Jones’ Airdrie Stud consignment, is off the list.
