NEW DELHI: Mohammed, co-founder of Alt News Zubair was brought before a Delhi court in a case involving a “repulsive tweet” he posted in 2018 against a Hindu god. Delhi Police seeking his 14-day judicial guardianship.
Zubair was brought before the court at the end of a five-day detention interrogation period.
The police told the Chief of the Metropolitan Court Snigdha Sarvaria that he is no longer required to be questioned and detained.
During the brief hearing, Prosecutor Atul Srivastava also informed the court that the police had invoked new provisions – sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. Degree and section 35 of the Foreign Contributions (Regulations) Act. – against Zubair.
Following the police application, Zubair forwarded his bail application to the court on the grounds that he did not need to investigate further.
The court may soon hear the bail application.
Zubair’s defense advocate, Vrinda Grover, told the court that the phone was seized by police at not when the tweets were made.
“The tweet is from 2018, the phone that I (Zubair) are using right now. I haven’t even denied the tweet yet,” she said.
Zubair was previously registered under sections 153 (intentional provocation with intent to riot) and 295 (injury or defilement of a place of worship with the intent to offend the religion of any class) of the IPC.
IPC section 295A (intentional and malicious acts, intended to offend the religious sentiments of any class by offending their religion or religious beliefs) were then also invoked against back to him.
