Mother’s Day 2023: Popular Indian content creators make mom their muse
We’ve seen videos of these creators taking the social media world by storm. And quite often, they describe those very relatable moments to their mothers. Some of these creators even took their moms reeling from reality as they completed their journey to accumulate maximum views and likes. On International Mother’s Day 2023, Kusha Kapila, Ankush Bahuguna, Dolly Singh and Chabi Gupta tell us how their mothers have become our muse as they make us laugh, cry, share and point out our mother’s sassy!
“A lot of people think the version of my mother (in my videos) is exaggerated. Little did they know that my mother is even more lively in real life (laughs),” said Kusha Kapila, added, “My mom was always there with the empty words and the fact check. And I use them for my content.”
Loved for imitating her mother on Insta reels, Kapila adds: “My mom is hilarious, especially during video calls. Having experienced her brashness in generous fights growing up, it’s only fair to include that integral part of my life in my content… She used to be strict but now we are close friends. She’s at the core of my content, and any time I feel like I’m in crisis, I know she’ll advise me not to. She is very interesting!
“Whether improvising or in our brainstorming sessions, my mom is a super creative person. A lot of her factual lies really forced me to create more,” says Ankush Bahuguna, whose mother regularly joins him in his YouTube and Instagram videos. He went on to confess that he, in fact, started his makeup channel in tribute to his mother: “She never wore makeup. I started experimenting on her, and gradually became who I was. Whether it’s my content, acting or makeup skills, the credit goes to her as today’s mothers are no longer the sacrificial Mother India figures we used to see in Bollywood. They are barbarians, sassy and approachable people who are not afraid to put us down. And mine keeps me steady, both on and off screen (laughs).”
“My first character, the mummy Raju ki, was completely inspired by my mother. In fact, my dad would see it and go, ‘Mom, Mom’,” recalls Dolly Singh, shares how much she is inspired by her mother when creating content on social networks. “I just love watching videos with her…. Growing up as a middle class Indian, our moms all seem the same and can count on her as an inspiration. mine to serve the masses is something I just love! I love her and I love to imitate her in terms of content,” she added.
Disclosure: “My YouTube and Insta pages were started as a way to help my mom become a creator, more than just me.” Chabi Gupta, whose account is awash with her mother’s sharp satires and humorous reactions. “We come from a very small town Gumla (in Jharkhand) where women’s opinions are naturally suppressed. But, I have seen my mother’s eyes for everything. Her ability to make things happen is amazing! She is the catalyst for my work, and has helped me build an unquestionable reputation. She is my inspiration, my muse and my project — all combined into one,” Gupta added, commenting on how moms are now moving toward content creation. How: “My mother’s creativity, her jokes, even her love fueled my entire journey. Followers, likes, shares, everything is more hers than mine!”
