Mott Runners Tuning at Spa
Purebred Godolphin Cody’s Wish (make for curly) tuned for GI Whitney S. Aug 5 with 5-stage work on the Oklahoma land training track on 1:02.81 (October 12) Sunday in Saratoga.
Coached by Bill Mott, the 5-year-old was joined by assistant coach Neil Poznansky, who guided GI Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner through divisions of: 26 2/5 and: 38 2/5 before galloping in 1:15 1/5, 1:27 1/5 and 1:41 3/5.
“He just let go of the reins and picked it up right away,” Mott said.
Cody’s Wish looks to Whitney with a six-win streak including wins at GI Forego S. last August in Saratoga, Dirt Mile in November in Keeneland, GI Churchill Downs in May and GI Hill ‘n’ Dale Metropolitan H. June 10 in Belmont. He will be looking to claim his first win of more than a mile in Whitney, while also starting his first nine distances since finishing third in the first tilt at Saratoga two years ago.
Also on Sunday, Mott sends the defending champion a sprint elite power (make for curly) to run the half-mile in: 51/5 on the Oklahoma training track in preparation for the July 29 GI lasting six Alfred G. Vanderbilt H.
Elite Power was timed with an easy opening rate of :24 and shift by NYRA timers on Sunday in a breeze that Mott pointed out was similar to a chestnut half-mile at:51.11 against Oklahoma last October prior to his score in the GI Breeders’ Cup Sprint.
“It was him alone,” Mott said. “He’s done those jobs well right before his race. He did it in Saudi. He worked: 51 years old before winning the Breeders’ Cup. He won’t impress anyone when he works alone.”
