MultiVersus, the multiplayer platform fighting game from Warner Bros. and Player First Games, will be removed from digital stores on April 4 and will go offline — meaning largely unplayable — in June. The developer announced on Monday that they are pausing updates and taking the game offline for relaunch MultiVersustargeted for early 2024.

This is the first official update that Player First has provided since November, when the developer brought it Marvin the Martian and part 2 content of the game. Since then, remaining players of the game remains largely in the dark about the fate of MultiVersus and was desperate for new content. Huynh addressed the game’s notable lack of updates in his announcement.
“We know there is still a lot of work to be done,” he said. “As a result we have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, namely the content pacing of new characters, maps and modes to give you even more ways to enjoy. game mode, along with updated network codes and more matchmaking improvements. We’ll also rework the progression system based on your feedback and look at new ways for you to connect with your friends in the game.
“In order to do this properly, we will be shutting down MultiVersus Open Beta on June 25, 2023. As part of this process, we’ll be pausing updates and taking the game offline as we prepare for the launch. MultiVersuswhich we are targeting early 2024.”
During that June to early 2024 period, MultiVersus Players will only have access to the game’s offline modes: training room (aka Lab) and local matches.
“We know this news can be disappointing, but rest assured, MultiVersus will be back,” Huynh said. “We will also make sure that all your progress and content continues when MultiVersus returns next year, with lots of new content, features and modes.”
MultiVersus Released in July 2022, and Warner Bros. and Player First has called the game “open beta” ever since. However, that fact is not widely promoted on digital game stores, and players who have invested money in this free game will likely wonder if they will get a refund. According to one Frequently asked questions posted by Player First, that seems unlikely. From the developer:
What happens to previously earned or purchased in-game content after the Open Beta ends?
All previously earned or purchased progress and content will be carried over when MultiVersus back in early 2024. This includes Gleamium tokens, unused Battle Pass, character tickets, and any other in-game items – all of which will be carried over to the game next year.
Can previously purchased content be refunded?
This notice does not change any existing refund policies or terms offered by the storefront(s) where the Founder’s Pack or Gleamium were purchased from. However, all progress and previously earned or purchased content will continue when MultiVersus back in early 2024.
