MWC 2022 takes place this week as a physical event in Barcelona, Spain – almost a year after its mostly online presence and a few years after the original terrestrial version was cancelled. abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since its founding in 1987, Mobile World Congress (MWC) is known for mobile phones and related technologies. This year’s conference not only features many mobile devices but also tablets, laptops, etc. TCL also introduced new foldable phones at MWC 2022 with different design and experience. Additionally, this year’s conference brought in ultra-fast charging technology from companies including Realme and Oppo that we’ll be rolling into commercial devices later this year.

Ritesh was on hand to cover this year’s MWC, while Roydon has a long history of attending the conference in Barcelona. One of the biggest differences between this year’s MWC and previous editions is the smaller number of attendees. The conference used to have thousands of people attending different keynotes at the same time. But coronavirus restrictions, still in place to some extent, have resulted in a cut in the number of people attending MWC.
Attendees are also required to wear masks. Similarly, sanitisers are placed in all booths for people to wash their hands before touching any performance equipment.
Regarding the main highlights, TCL grabbing eyeballs with foldable phones – TCL Fold ‘n Roll and TCL Ultra Flex. Both phones allow users to turn them into tablets by opening their flexible screens. Fold ‘n Roll comes with the ability to extend the screen from one side up to 10 inches. In contrast, the TCL Ultra Flex has a 360-degree hinge mechanism that allows the phone to be folded both inward and outward.
Both new foldable phones from TCL are currently available for display and not for commercial purposes. However, the company may bring them to market in certain regions later this year.
TCL Ultra Flex fast charging to 150W: The coolest tech and phones announced at MWC 2022
Besides foldable devices, TCL also introduces its new smartphone models that are not unique but bring more choices to consumers.
Huawei this time introduce the Paper MatePad as its first e-reader. The device comes with a 13.3-inch E-ink display that supports touch input and works with the included stylus. It also includes 64GB of onboard storage.
Chinese giants also comes with its new Windows 11 laptop at MWC. These announcements are essentially aimed at retaining customers – despite having lost the smartphone business.
Myself and Oppo – two Chinese subsidiaries BBK Electronics – joined this year’s MWC with their 150W fast charging technology. Both companies claim that their new technology is capable of charging a typical 4,500mAh battery from 0 to 50% in 5 minutes.
Charger 150W will be released above Realme GT Neo 3 later this year. Oppo, on the other hand, announced that its 150W charging technology will be part of OnePlus phones in the second quarter of this year.
Realme and Oppo seem to be facing an uphill battle Xiaomi that recommend its 120W fast charging on the phone earlier this year. Oppo also introduced 240W charging technology which is currently only in concept form.
