Derby G1 Cazoo became much more interesting after TDN Rising Star Desert Crown (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire} –Desert Berry {GB}, of Green Desert) injected much-needed adrenaline into the mix by scoring an impressive success during the G2 Al Basti Equiworld Dubai Dante S. in York on Thursday. Sir Michael Stoute may have tried to hide the light of Saeed Suhail’s one-time pony under a bushel, describing him as a “worker” at home, but news of him spread like wildfire. Wildfires all over Newmarket and now we know why. Impressive enough with his triumphant debut in the first mile-long tournament at Nottingham in November, recent wins by Mishriff (Ire) (Make Believe {GB}) and Space Blues ( Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), he’s unusual here tackling the proven team winners after a glitch in his spring training. Moved to the back by Richard Kingscote, the 7-2 final result was moved forward with minimal encouragement as the two went out and although control sealed his class in matters . Now, buy Book 2 by Strawberry Fields Stud 280,000gns with 3 1/4 lengths to spare Royal Patronage (Fr) (Wootton Bassett {GB}), with Bluegrass (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) gives Ballydoyle a straight line in the form of 2 1/2 lengths behind the third. In doing so, he ranked Stoute with the late Sir Henry Cecil with a joint record of seven winners of this prestigious Derby challenge. “He may still be a bit green, but he’s a very relaxed guy and I don’t see a mile and a half as a problem,” said the winning driver.
