Nearly 300 riders signed up for Canter for a cause
A total of 270 riders from across the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond have signed up for the famous Canter for a Cause on Sunday, October 30 at the historic Pimlico Circuit. Sponsored by the Maryland Jockey Club, Canter for a Cause allows the public the opportunity to walk, trot, canter or gallop their favorite horse or pony on the same track that has hosted the legends like Seabiscuit, Secret, War Admiral and recent Triple Crown champions American pharoah and Evenly. More than 250 riders took part in Canter for a Cause last year, the race is back after going missing in 2020 amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“It was a great event and everyone was excited to do it again. We have nearly 300 registered riders, all for a great cause,” said Georganne Hale, Maryland Jockey Club’s vice president of motorsport development. “Those who come appreciate the fact that they are riding on the same track as some of the greatest horses in history.”
Canter for a Cause is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sign-up costs $60 per ride, with proceeds going to benefit the After Purebred Care Alliance (TAA) .
