New Netflix India plans to drop prices, now starting at Rs. 149 per month
Netflix’s plans in India are changing – at a significant price drop. Starting today, you’ll see savings of between 18 and 60 percent, depending on the Netflix plan you sign up for. The “Mobile” Netflix bundle, formerly at Rs. 199 per month, which is down 25 percent to Rs. 149 per month. The biggest savings are in store for the “Basic” Netflix plan – previously available for Rs. 499 per month, now it will cost only Rs. 199 per month in India. Up the ladder, the “Standard” Netflix plan has been slashed from Rs. 649 per month to Rs. 499 per month. That’s a 23 percent savings. That makes the “Premium” Netflix bundle, priced from Rs. 799 per month to Rs. 649 per month. Essentially, the four Netflix bundles available in India are all priced below them, with “Mobile” taking a new spot at Rs. 149.
If you already have a Netflix sign up, you’ll get a seamless upgrade to a higher plan starting today. On the next login, members will receive a notification on their device asking them to Upgrade Confirmation or choose a different plan if they want. For users of the top Netflix “Premium” plan, the price change will take effect from the next billing cycle. This also applies to those who choose to continue with their current plan, compared to their current price.
The benefits remain the same. The Netflix “Mobile” plan offers 480p standard definition (SD) content on phones and tablets, the “Basic” plan lets you watch it on any device, although you’re still limited in the mode that low 480p resolution. (Netflix was the last major platform to offer SD video on non-mobile plans, as both Amazon Prime Video and Disney + Hotstar enable HD streaming. Amazon doesn’t restrict you to SD content on Prime Video Mobile Edition. Disney+ Hotstar has no video quality limits on any plan.) With the “Standard” Netflix plan, you get an upgrade to 1080p high-definition (HD) video, and the “Premium” Netflix plan allows you access 4K resolution and high dynamic range video (HDR).

With these new prices, Netflix is a bit more competitive in India. Amazon Prime Video has more expensive on Tuesdays, with an Amazon Prime subscription going up from Rs. 999 per year to Rs. 1,499 per year. It’s about Rs. 125 a month. Unlike Netflix and Disney + Hotstar, Amazon offers 4K HDR streaming and multiple devices on a single plan. There’s that said above Prime Video Mobile Edition available with certain mobile operators and starts at Rs. 89 per month. Disney + Hotstar continues to be Most affordable price of the lot, with Rs. 499 per year Cellular plan. It’s about Rs. 42 a month. It also has Disney + Hotstar Super (Rs 8,99 per year) if you want to watch on two devices simultaneously, and Disney + Hotstar Premium (Rs 1,499 per year) for 4K and four devices.
