New rules for college admissions: A 5-point guide
New Delhi:
College admissions will be based on a regular US-style entrance test from now on, not 12th grade grades, the University Grants Commission (UGC) said.
Here is what this means:
-
Instead of 12th grade exam results, university admission will now depend on a general entrance test. Anyone who has passed Grade 12 is eligible.
-
In addition to the general test, universities may set a minimum score or threshold for Grade 12 for admission
-
The test will be multiple-choice and computer-based, similar to the American SAT. Test centers will be set up all over India by the National Testing Authority
-
This will apply to centrally affiliated universities such as the University of Delhi and Jawaharlal Nehru University. Public and private universities are expected to follow suit.
-
The Common Entrance Examination for this year will be held in the first week of July. Applications will begin in April and the exam will be held online.
