New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh announced that Rodgers’ 21-day practice window will open on Wednesday.
Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon 79 days ago in the Jets’ season opener against the Buffalo Bills. He has continued to rehabilitate and has said he would like to return before the end of the regular season, even if the Jets are not in playoff contention.
If the team does not activate Rodgers to the 53-man roster in the 21-day window, he will have to revert back to injured reserve, which would officially end his season.
The Jets’ offence has struggled without Rodgers. Behind a combination of Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle starting under centre, the Jets have averaged just 14.8 points per game — the third-worst point total in the league.
New York is 4-7 and on the outside looking in of the AFC playoff picture.
