Newsells Park Stud’s Blue Hen Shastye dies after fooling

Newsells Park Stud manager Julian Dollar led the tributes to Shastye (Ire) (Danehill), Group 1 producer, who passed away at the age of 21 shortly after giving birth to a Dubawi pony ( Ire) on Sunday.
The dam of five individual black performers, including the Group 1 award-winning brothers of Galileo (Ire), Japan (GB) and Mogul (GB), who are now stallions, descendants of Shastye wowed on the track and in the sales ring.
Described by Dollar as “one of the most inspiring and life-changing horses” he has worked with, Shastye’s descendants have collected more than £15 million at public auction and they also deliver it at where it matters most.
Japan, the avid 1.3m guineas, famous for the Crystal Ocean (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) earned in the G1 Juddmonte International 2019 in York a month after winning the G1 Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp.
Mogul, who has won 3.4 million guineas as an aspirant, also won the Grand Prix de Paris in 2020 and cemented Shastye’s reputation as a Group 1 production phenomenon by winning the Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin in 2020.
Dollar said, “Many hours have been spent with Shastye or her descendants. Usually because they’re special, and you usually know you’re in the presence of something special, but mostly because Shastye is just an adorable mare and a joy to be around. She is the best therapy any man can have and I know I owe her more than I realize.”
Shastye, half-sister to 1998 G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triompohe winner, Sagamix (Fr) (Linamix {Fr}), was a double winner and placed on the List level in practice. with John Gosden.
