Next Nissan Navara confirmed for Australia, but where’s the Patrol?

A new Nissan Navara will be one of two new vehicles the brand will launch in Oceania by April 2026.

The company confirmed during a presentation of its medium-term business plan that a new one-ton ute is coming to our region by fiscal year 2026, which ends on March 31, 2026.

It will be joined by another vehicle which for now Nissan is referring to only as the “C crossover EV”.

Whether this is the belated arrival of the Ariya or an electric successor to the Qashqai is unclear, as both are referred to as C-segment or compact crossovers overseas.

As previously confirmed, Nissan is working with Mitsubishi on its next-generation Navara, which it teased among a range of other upcoming models.

While it hasn’t confirmed these options for our market, Nissan has confirmed the “next-gen 1-ton pickup” will also be available with electric or plug-in hybrid power.

Additionally, Nissan will produce the next-gen model in Mexico and offer it with plug-in hybrid power in North America.

This suggests Nissan could once again have a global ute model. The current-generation Navara isn’t offered in North America, which instead stuck with the previous-generation model before receiving a heavily modified version of the old model for 2022.

As with other Alliance collaborations like the Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan X-Trail, we should expect to see the Navara share its platform and powertrains with another Alliance model – in this case, the recently redesigned Mitsubishi Triton.

Judging by the teaser, it looks set to adopt similarly squared-off styling to the new Triton.

But while Nissan has confirmed five new models for Japan by fiscal year 2026, six for Europe and seven for North America, the cupboard is much barer for Oceania.

Conspicuous in its absence from Nissan’s presentation is the next-generation Patrol/Armada full-sized SUV, which it will launch in other markets during fiscal year 2024.

The same video teaser that revealed the next Navara also appeared to depict the next Patrol, which as expected has a similar silhouette to the new Infiniti QX80 but with unique front- and rear-end styling.

There is precedent for a massive delay with the Patrol.

The current Y62-series model entered production in Japan in 2010, but it didn’t arrive here until 2013.
