The NHL and the NHL Players Association announced Tuesday the formation of a League that includes NHL players. The group was formerly known as the NHL’s Executive Inclusion Council.
The league, consisting of 20 current and former male and female players, is co-chaired by Anson Carter and PK Subban.
Along with the launch of the Alliance, the NHL and NHLPA have committed more than $1 million to support grassroots programs and organizations. Each Alliance member who has selected a program or organization will receive a $5,000 grant from the NHL Player Inclusion Coalition Action Fund.

Cam Atkinson: Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education, a nonprofit that uses the sport of hockey to educate and empower under-resourced youth in Philadelphia to thrive in the game of life.
Ethan Bear: Little Native Hockey League, an annual hockey league that brings together First Nation youth from Ontario to build and empower communities.
JT Brown: Seattle Pride Hockey Association, an organization committed to promoting and advocating diversity and inclusion in the Pacific Northwest ice hockey community, with a particular interest in LGBTQ+ inclusion.
Blake bold: The Empowerment Effect, a mentoring program that supports young female ice hockey players, ages 7-16, from underserved communities in the Los Angeles area.
Madison Bowey: Detroit Ice Dreams Hockey Association, a youth hockey organization that aims to reduce barriers that prevent minority communities from accessing ice hockey.
Anson Carter: Atlanta Jr. Thrashers, a program that gives girls in the South the chance to play hockey and grow into strong female leaders; and Atlanta Sparks, a program that provides a fun and safe environment for athletes with special needs to play hockey.
Julie Chu: Caroline Ouellette Girls Hockey Celebration, an organization that promotes and develops women’s hockey through an all-girls hockey tournament with fun and competitive games.
Meghan Dugan: Hockey in New Jersey, an organization that inspires diverse youth to develop life skills, academic success, and create positive relationships through the sport of hockey; and the Madison Gay Hockey Association, an all-gender hockey league for the LGBTQIA community in Madison, Wisconsin.
Fraser Marking: Seaside Hockey, a program that provides support to visible minority youth in the Greater Toronto Area to help more diverse children play hockey and gain life skills.
Chris Kreider: Ice Hockey in Harlem, an organization that provides ice and ice hockey programming to provide young people in Harlem with experiences that prepare them for their future.
Brigette Lacquette: Siksika SN7, a youth and youth group that provides hockey programming along with peer support to young people in the Siksika Nation.
George Larque: Hockey 4 Youth, an organization that offers new Canadian youth the chance to play ice hockey for free. The Laraque grant helped launch a new program for girls in Grades 5-6 in the Saint-Laurent area of Montreal.
Jamal Mayers: North City Blues, a program for St. Louis enrolled in KIPP and/or Friendly Temple schools that provide free instruction to learn ice hockey.
Al Montoya: University of Texas at Arlington University Crossroads. The Montoya grant will support scholarships for students interested in a career in sports management, to inspire students from more backgrounds to consider a career in hockey.
Nurse Sarah: Seaside Hockey, a program that provides support to visible minority youth in the Greater Toronto Area to help more diverse children play hockey and gain life skills.
Ryan Reaves: Ice Hockey in Harlem, an organization that provides ice and ice hockey programming to provide young people in Harlem with experiences that prepare them for their future.
Abby Roque: Clark Park Coalition Hockey, a program that provides recreational, educational, social, and mentoring programs to families in southwestern Detroit to help youth grow into responsible and confident adults .
Kevin Shatenkirk: The Anaheim Family YMCA Youth Street Hockey League. The Shatenkirk grant is being used to cover registration fees for participants in order to help the program grow.
Subban PK: HEROS Hockey, an organization that uses the game of ice hockey to teach life skills and empower disadvantaged youth by providing free hockey programming to youth across Canada.
Zach Whitecloud: Dakota Nation Winterfest minor hockey tournament, an annual tournament that coincides with a celebration of indigenous culture. Whitecloud’s funding will be used to subsidize participation fees in order to reduce costs for young teams to participate.
