Nicole Kidman considers dropping out of ‘Being the Ricardos’
“[I’m] a human being, so there’s a time when you go, “God, maybe I’m not the right person for this,” Kidman said. “That’s where there’s someone like Aaron [Sorkin, who directed and wrote the biopic], who actually said at the beginning, he was like, ‘I don’t want to have a perfect performance or imitate Lucy. No no no no no.'”
Kidman stars as Ball alongside Javier Bardem as Ball’s husband and “I Love Lucy” co-star Desi Arnaz.
When it was reported that Kidman had been cast as the legendary red-haired star, many doubted if she was the ideal choice.
However, Sorkin let her know that he wanted someone who could switch symbols, and regarding her experience, Kidman said she did.
“There’s a scene where they say, ‘You’re 39, and that’s it. For you, it’s over,'” Kidman said. “I know that feeling. I used to have that. And it was like, OK. Where the television suddenly opened the door for her, it opened a door for me. Same age, I said, ‘ God, kind of… I know that feeling is really deep.'”
Kidman also has the support of Lucie Arnaz, the daughter of Ball and Arnaz.
“That is the story of Lucille Ball, my real mother, not Lucy Ricardo, and her husband, Dezi Arnaz, my father, not Ricky Ricardo,” wrote young Arnaz. “There will be humor in the movie, but it’s the story of the two of them and how they met and what went right with finding the show, what happened, their relationship, love their.”
“Being the Ricardos” is streaming on Amazon Prime.
