Nissan NISMO prepares GT-R supercar with hybrid powertrain, EV – report
monster is planning to return and it will be filled with electronics. Be careful.
Talk to carNISMO CEO Takao Katagiri said Nissan’s fast-moving division is working on a “very interesting model” that will be sold in Japan, the US, the UK and Europe.
The new car will probably be the next generation GT-CHEAP or at least the spiritual successor of the GT-R. In the UK, at least, the car will be sold under the Nismo sub-brand.
Katagiri hints that the car will be launched this decade and says it will be available with a “combination” of hybrid and EV powertrains.
Last year, Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida said the automaker has hope to fit a non-hybrid powertrain for the successor of the GT-R. Those hopes appear to have fallen, especially if the company is aiming to sell the car in Europe.
It is likely that the successor to the original GT-R will be equipped with a hybrid powertrain. Company executives previously told the UK publication that Nissan is not ready to launch a performance EV model until the solid-state battery is ready.
Based on car, the brand is very advanced with solid-state battery research. While the company is preparing to open a pilot plant in 2024, the technology likely won’t be used in production vehicles until 2028.
The successor to the GT-R is expected to be a standalone model and likely to use a unique architecture.
While production of the current R35 GT-R continues, this model has been discontinued in Australia due to non-compliance with our special side impact requirements. It has also been withdrawn from sale in Europe.
The company’s only other sports car is the letter Zdespite the new bodywork, twin-turbo V6 and a redesigned interior, using the same platform as the 370Z, launched in 2008.
