When Tinja comes across a strange egg and brings it home, it rapidly grows before… well, hatching into a creature nicknamed “Alli.”
Are from our review:
But Alli is an enchanting presence that makes the film the center of horror. Bergholm told Polygon that she actually Googled the world’s best expert in cinematic electronics, then contacted him about working on the film. That bold choice paid off: Her animation supervisor, Gustav Hoegen, came directly to this film from running the actual creature effects teams for Lucasfilm, on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Solo, The Last Jedi, Rogue One, and The Force Awakens. Her SFX makeup head, Conor O’Sullivan, also has a similar pedigree, being one half of the Oscar-nominated effects duo who gave Heath Ledger the role of Joker in The Dark Knight. Together, they and their team make Alli stealthy, with a familiar weight and belief in real effects rather than CG effects. And Solalinna’s performance with the puppet is convincing and poignant. Together, they push the film past its weaker points for a memorable ending.

We met in virtual reality

Filmed entirely in virtual reality, the 2022 documentary We met in virtual reality Follow the stories of several subjects, including an ASL teacher, two long-distance running couples and a fitness coach, as they form connections through the virtual reality platform VRChat during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Are from our review:
They focus on teaching sign language – and in the process, they create VRChat more inclusive and welcoming to hearing impaired users – feels especially bold in an environment where most people seem to be focused on the game. Hunting’s material jumps around distractingly and sometimes without form, but in the process it captures many of the pleasures of its users, whether they’re competing at a virtual pool, organizing a night of virtual improvisation or rocking their avatar in a virtual exotic dance club. Even existing only in VRChat seems like a form of representation, with custom avatars on the screen, revealing a surprising amount of user fixation and imagination. The sheer volume of exaggerated, exaggerated forms tells its own story about how people want to imagine themselves.
