You did a walk for designer Shruti Sancheti recently – tell us about the outfit you wore.
I wore this really simple yet beautiful tailored dress made from Maheshwari fabric, a traditional fabric that Shruti has modernized and created a beautiful dress. I think it’s really cool because this fabric is restricted to saris and suits, but she made it wearable even when making dresses. It’s really lightweight, easy to wear, and has a nice shape. Since I really like the fabric, I also like the dress.
In what ways do you relate to her designs?
They are very Comfortable. In addition, they are young and new. When I see an item by Shruti Sancheti, I can see myself wearing it on a number of occasions. It doesn’t feel repetitive, which I really like about her. I’ve worn her combo set before, which I kept for months because I really liked it and didn’t want to return it!
You’re not new to the ramp, but have you ever felt jittery? The one thing you dread the most and the one thing you enjoy most about walking uphill?
I feel restless about everything. Even when I go to a set, I feel like I’m going to mess up. That’s because I always wear 6-inch heels. On the ramp, I must always wear high heels I have – so my biggest fear is that I trip or fall in the face while walking. I didn’t know what I was going to do at that time; So I really hope that doesn’t happen.
You like to experiment with your style. How would you describe it?
I keep trying new, different things. Also, I don’t shy away from the idea of creating new things for myself – for example, if I’ve seen some designs in shows or by designers, I think the most aspects its determination can be incorporated in an outfit for myself. This is like a passion for me, so my stylist is also very interested in this. So every time she picks something up from a designer store or clicks on a photo, I’m more interested in knowing about an outfit she hasn’t picked, to see if we can. It combines style, its embroidery in any way. In the end, we pull things out and reinvent and reinvent.
5 must-have wardrobes and why?
Your most comfortable pair of jeans is an absolute must because you can live in them! And there’s nothing more classy (for me) than a nice pair of blue jeans and a crisp white shirt. I think I wear this combination every week! Also, you must have a kurta pajamas, along with a lot of linen things – shirts, pants, skirts, especially the long dresses that I love to wear. They are my absolute go-to, along with the playset and overalls.
What is the absolute “no” when it comes to fashion to you?
Even though I don’t have any absolute numbers, but if there’s something wrong with me even if it’s The biggest trend in fashion, I would still say no to it. It just has to look good to me.
A fashion trend you’ve tried, but can never really embrace.
mohawk hair; it just doesn’t look good on me. I look really weird in there, so I stay away from it.
Sustainability has become a buzzword, especially in the fashion sector. What are you undertaking it?
I am a complete supporter. If someone can remodel my wardrobe, take pieces from it and stitch it up and turn it into another outfit – I’m absolutely thrilled with that.
The best thing about being a part of a flashy industry, and the not so good.
Glamor, for me, is a by-product of being an actor. It’s not what I was looking for. But the downside is that there’s too much stress – the airport looks, the gym to even the coffee date look. I feel we can simplify our lives. After all, we live in a time when we are judged for everything and anything we say and do, and being an actor always puts you in the limelight. So I really think we should be a little less stressed.
