Odisha Congress MLA Mohammed Moquim, ex-IAS babu Vinod Kumar get three years’ rigorous imprisonment for scam | India News
BHUBANESWAR: A special vigilante judge on Thursday sentenced Barabati-Cuttack Congress MLA Mohammed Moquim, former IAS office staff Vinod Kumar and two others were sentenced to between three years and three years in prison in connection with a loan scam.
The court also fined Rs 50,000 each for the Orissa Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC) scam, which was carried out two decades ago. The other two convicts were Swasti Ranjan Mohapatraformer corporate secretary of ORHDC, and Peeyusdhari Mohantydirector of Metro Builders Pvt Ltd.
Metro Corporation, represented by Moquim as MD, applied for a Rs 1.5 term loan from ORHDC in 2000 for an apartment project. Kumar was the MD of ORHDC at the time. Kumar did not submit the loan application before the board of directors nor the loan committee for approval.
He showed undue favor towards the real estate company and illegally disbursed the loan. “Income tax returns, Bhubaneswar Development Authority plans and other certificates were forged by Metro Builders,” special prosecutor Hemant Kumar Swain speak.
