Ohio HBPA donates for new vocations
The new Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program announced that it has received a $75,000 grant from the Ohio Riders’ Benevolent and Protective Association. The donation will help support aftercare efforts at the New Vocations facility in Medina, Ohio, which focuses on rehabilitating, retraining, and retooling retired Thoroughbred racehorses from racetrack in the state.
“Ensuring our horses have a good home after a break is very important to the Ohio HBPA,” said Ohio HBPA CEO Dave Basler. “Continuing to support New Vocations was an easy decision based on their 30-year track record of successfully retraining and retooling our Ohio horses. ”
Adds Pure New Vocation Program Director, Anna Ford: “We are grateful for the generosity and continued support from the Ohio HBPA. Even in the face of rising inpatient and equine care costs and the pandemic, which has resulted in challenging times for everyone, the support of the Ohio HBPA has helped us provide aftercare services. interrupted for the horses that are about to get off the track and ready to find their next career. ”
New Vocations was founded in 1992 in Laura, Ohio.
“We will always have a special place in our hearts for the Ohio riders who helped us get started,” said Ford. “We are honored that they still entrust us with the work of transitioning their horses into new lives and new careers.”
