Omicron infected man returns to Gujarat from Zimbabwe, 3rd case in India

The state health ministry said a man returning from Zimbabwe was found to be infected with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in Gujarat’s Jamnagar. This is the third Omicron case in India.
The other two cases are a 46-year-old fully immunized doctor from Bengaluru, who has no travel history and presents with symptoms of fever and body aches, and a 66-year-old man from South Africa who arrived. India with COVID negative. -19 reports.
The country has stepped up testing and surveillance of all incoming international passengers, especially from at-risk countries, since the Omicron variant was first detected in South Africa.
The World Health Organization says it could take weeks to determine if Omicron is more transmissible and if it causes more severe infections – as well as treatments and how effective the current vaccine against it is.
But the new variant has put the world’s recovery in doubt. More than two dozen countries including India have now detected cases of this variant.
