Ontario’s Buy Mare Program gets a funding boost
Ontario Racing’s Thoroughbred Improvement Program Committee has approved an additional $200,000 for its Mare Purchase Program, bringing the total to $700,000 following an enthusiastic response from breeders.
“The main focus of this program is to give Ontario breeders the opportunity to purchase a better mare and a higher quality stock,” said David Anderson, Breeders Representative on the Ontario Racing Council and member of the TIP Committee said. “There are people who still want to buy horses, and this will help them.”
Ontario residents purchasing broodstock are eligible for a 50% rebate of the purchase price up to a maximum of $25,000 CAD. Mares must be purchased for a minimum of $10,000 USD, with no maximum limit, and purchased from a public auction accredited by Ontario Racing. There is a maximum distribution of $75,000 CAD to any individual, partnership, corporation or other ownership group.
First-come, first-served program and applications must be submitted 30 days in advance of purchase.
