Pakistani police want PUBG game banned after teenager fatally shoots 4 family members

Pakistani police on Monday called for the hugely popular PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) game to be banned after a teenager confessed kill four members of his family in a fit of rage after binge-playing online for days.
Police said Ali Zain fatally shot his mother, two sisters and a brother on January 18 and claimed to be questioned over the weekend that the game made him violent.
Investigating police officer Imran Kishwar told reporters in the eastern city of Lahore, adding: “This is not the first incident of this nature, so we have decided to request an order. ban”.
PUBG is an online multiplayer “battle royale” game where the winner is the last survivor.
Kishwar said Ali, 18, lives completely isolated in his room and addicted to games.
The Dawn newspaper quoted a Lahore police officer as saying Ali “shot at his family thinking they would also come back to life, as happened in the game”.
Often likened to the book series and blockbuster movie “The Hunger Games”, PUBG has become one of the most popular mobile games in the world.
Telecommunications authorities in Pakistan had previously temporarily blocked access to the game after complaints about the game’s violent content.
The game has been banned – either temporarily or permanently – in several other countries, including India and China.
