Pat Cummins Named New Australian Test Captain Steve Smith His Vice Captain

A week after Tim Paine stepped down as Australia Test team captain, all-rounder Pat Cummins was named the team’s new captain on Friday, Cricket Australia announced. Former captain and star smasher Steve Smith has been appointed vice-captain of the Australian Test team. “47th captain of Australian men’s cricket team test! @Pacummins30,” Cricket Australia tweeted. “Batter and former captain Steve Smith have been appointed vice-captains of the team,” Cricket Australia wrote in another tweet.

“Following an interview process with a five-man selection panel and approval from Cricket Australia’s board of directors, Cummins is today the first fast pitcher to become a full-time pitcher. of the Australian Men’s Test team and the first pitcher of any kind Cricket Australia said in a team statement since Richie Benaud.
“His appointment comes after the stunning resignation of Tim Paine last week following the revelation of a texting incident from 2017, which left Australia without a captain in less than a year. three weeks since the First Vodafone Ash Test Battle with Britain”, the statement added.
The Test’s No. 1 bowler Cummins has said he’s “very honored to take on the role” of the Test captain ahead of Ashes.
“I am honored to take on this role ahead of a huge summer for Ashes,” Cummins said in a statement.
“I hope I can provide the same leadership that Tim (Paine) has given the team over the past few years.
“With Steve and I as captains, some very senior players on this squad, and some great young talent coming up, we are a strong and close-knit collective.

The first ash test match between Australia and England will be played from 8 December at The Gabba in Brisbane.
