Penguins defenseman Kris Letang gets second opinion on 'significant' injury
Kris Letang will get a second opinion on the injury that is ailing the patient Pittsburgh Penguins defender all season.
General manager Kyle Dubas said it was a “serious” injury and they will have an update once Letang makes a decision on what he will do next.
Letang told reporters on Thursday that he is dealing with injuries that will force him to rest throughout the season.
“Letang has been dealing with numerous injuries for a long time,” head coach Mike Sullivan told reporters. “He is a warrior. There's no other way to describe it, some of the issues that he's had to deal with for a long time and continue to overcome to try to help us get to where we want to go.”
Despite injury concerns, Letang was able to make it through all 82 games of the season for the first time since 2010–11. He hasn't seen a drop in form, scoring 10 goals and 51 assists while averaging 24:41 minutes of action.
The 36-year-old has had many health challenges over the years, suffering two strokes (one in 2014 and one in 2022) but still managed to become an important part of the Penguins.
Letang signed a six-year, $36.6 million contract extension with the Penguins in July 2022.
