Petrol and diesel prices today: Petrol and diesel prices were unchanged on Thursday, December 16, 2021. Previously, the Delhi government reduced the value-added tax (VAT) on gasoline from 30% to 19.40%. As a result, petrol prices in the national capital have fallen by Rs 8.56 per liter. A liter of petrol currently costs Rs 95.41 in Delhi; while the price of diesel – unchanged – stood at Rs 86.67.
In Mumbai, petrol retails for Rs 109.98 per liter, while diesel is sold for Rs 94.14 per liter. Among metro cities, fuel prices are still the highest in Mumbai. Rates vary from state to state due to VAT. (Also Read: How to check the latest gas and diesel prices in your city).

State-run refiners such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum will adjust fuel prices on a daily basis, taking into account international crude oil prices and the US dollar exchange rate. Any changes in petrol and diesel prices will be made from 6:00 a.m. daily.
Globally, oil prices rose as US gasoline consumer demand surged to a record high in the world’s top oil consumer even as the Omicron variant of the coronavirus threatens global oil consumption. A signal by the US Federal Reserve to tackle inflation before it derails the US economy has also boosted prices. Brent crude futures rose 80 cents, or 1.1%, to $74.68 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose 88 cents, or 1.2%, up 71.75 USD.
