Via Ken Hissner: At Arena 2300 in South Philly on Saturday, Marshall Kauffman’s Kings Promotion in the Main Event, Philly’s local favorite Bantamweight Superweight Christian Carto clinched a narrow decision against Hector “La Maquinita Argentina’s Sosa before a crowd nearly sold out.
In the Super Bantam Christian Carto Main Event, 20-1 (13), #121, of Philadelphia, PA, beat Hector “La Maquinita” Sosa, 14-2 (8), #120.8, of Junin, Bueno Aires, ARG , more than eight rounds of competition.
In the first two rounds, Sosa started quickly, with Carto dominating the second half. In the third round, it was Sosa who outperformed Carto despite being rocked by Carto in the final seconds of the round with a punch on his chin.
In the final seconds of the fourth round, both landed punches until the bell rang. In the 5th round, Carto was warned by referee Eric Dali for using his forearm and pushing Sosa down when he was low.
In the sixth and seventh innings, Sosa landed Carto, who was often against the ropes.
In the 1/8 and final round, Carto was warned for the 3rd time about pushing Sosa down and spending too much time moving and fighting enough. In Carto’s corner was Derek “Bozy” Ennis, Philly’s top coaching teacher.
Scores appear to be skewed by officials skewing local Favorites with 77-75, 78-74 and 79-73. This writer had it 77-75 Cartoons in a tough fight.
Super Light Ken Robles, 10-2 (3), #141.3, of Staten Island, NY, beat Nampaw Jerome “The Conqueror” Conquest, 11-8 (1), #139.4, of North Philadelphia, PA, when after four innings The Conquest could not continue due to a leg injury for the eight scheduled innings.
In the first two rounds, the southpaw Conquest used its reach, closing in on rounds from the aggressive Robles. In the third round, Robles came back to take the lead. In the fourth inning, Robes hit Conquest with a body shot from the right, and suddenly Conquest fell to the canvas forcing Referee Eric Dali to score him 8 points. When he got up, Conquest limped heavily as if he had a leg cramp. He barely made it past the hoop when his corner waved it away.
Super Light Quadir “Savage C4” Albright, 6-1 (6), #144.7, of Chester, PA, suffered its first defeat when stopped by Roberto Gomez, 5-1 (5), #143.4, of Mexico City , MEX, at 1:59 of the fifth round of the scheduled six-round all-out fight.
In the first round, Albright used his boxing well enough to qualify for the next round. In the second half, Gomez got inside as short as Albright played. In the fourth inning, Gomez made a quick first-half start, landing fairly quickly on Albright’s chin, but Albright came back up at the last minute in an all-out round.
In the fifth inning, the action continued back and forth, with Gomez being stabbed in the body by Albright, kicking him with his forehand on multiple occasions, and heading him back. At the last minute, Gomez had a thunderous finish just above the chin, and knocked Albright down. Referee Shawn Clark counted him off the field as he tried to get up.
Heavyweight “King” Colby Madison, 10-4-2 (6), #236.2, of Baltimore, MD, knocked down by Junior “Hurricane” Wright, 19-4-1 (14), #219.4, of Evanston, IL , at 0:27 of the second of the six scheduled innings.
In the first round, the taller Madison used an effective jab against the twice world challenger Wright. In the final seconds of the second inning, Wright hit hard, rocking Madison with a left hook to the chin in the back corner of the match.
In the third round, Wright rushed out like a hurricane, backed Madison into his corner, knocked out a villain right on the chin, and knocked Madison out by referee Eric Dali.
In local semi-final favorite Light Heavy Southpaw Atif Oberlton, 7-0 65), #174.7, of Philadelphia, PA, knocks out Christian “Tiger” Thomas, 11-1 (9), #177, of Las Vegas, NV, at 2:24 of the second of six scheduled rounds.
In the first round, the much taller male Oberlton stalked and had a stab in the face of Thomas throughout the round that was barely bounced back by 37-year-old Thomas, who looked like every bit of his age.
In the second half, Oberlton opened the scoring, landed on the left with his chin, beat Thomas across the box and down the tarp to receive the full score from Referee Shawn Clark. Thomas has a buffer record when losing to record opponents.
Welter southpaw Kashon Hutchinson, 10-5 (2), #148, of Reading, PA, beat Rasheed Johnson, 8-5 (3), #148, of Willow Grove, PA, over six rounds.
In the first two innings, Southpaw Hutchinson was the aggressor with the advantage over the taller Johnson, overtaking him. In the third and fourth rounds, referee Shawn Clark cut him off, dividing the boxer too much.
In the sixth and final inning, Johnson finally picked up the pace but it was too late.

Super Welter James “No Gain” Martin, 9-3 (1), #153.4, of Philadelphia, PA, easily beat Alejandro Munera, 6-7-4 (5), #149.8, of Medellin, COL, over six the match.
For the first five rounds, Martin tied Munera up against the ropes with most of the body blows for the entire round. In the sixth and final round, Martin rocked Munera with a punch right on the chin mid-round, the best punch of the night.
