Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro Not Charging With Certain USB Type-C Cables, Chargers, Users Complain
Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro won’t charge when using a regular USB Type-C charger and cable, some users have complained on the Web. This is a problem because the phone does not have a charger in the box. Users reported that while they were able to charge other phones, the latest Pixel phones refused to charge with their USB Type-C cables and chargers. The problem seems to be much noticed when using a regular charging cable. In some cases, Pixel 6 series phones were detected charging but at an extremely slow rate.
Like the first time report by 9to5Google, some Pixel 6 users have posted on the Google Pixel Phone Help forum that their phones are not charging when using a shared cable or charger.
“Just pick up the device and plug it into the generic cable/charger I’ve been using to this day to charge any other USB-Type C devices I’ve used so far. Nothing happened. No charges, no warnings, nothing. It’s like it’s not connected”, one of the affected users report on forums.
Similar to user reports on official product forums, some Pixel 6 Pro users have Posted about this issue on Reddit. Some users have noticed that even though their Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro start charging with an existing cable and charger, it takes longer for them to fully charge the battery.
It’s important to note that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro do not include a charger, although you can purchase one from Google separately. However, the phone comes with a USB-C cable inside the box so users can connect it to a compatible charger to fully recharge the battery.
Google has yet to respond to any user complaints about charging issues with existing cables and chargers. However, it does not mention in one of its support pages that “other Android cables and power adapters may not work with Pixel phones.” This appears to be a precaution to avoid any damage to the Pixel device’s built-in battery.
The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro both have USB Power Delivery (PD) support. This means you can charge them with a PD-enabled charger. Anyhow, you need to pay more than you can with a regular cable or charger if you want to get a new PD solution.
Both Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have The highest wired charging speed 23W, but for that you need a 30W Google charger. Several recent tests also revealed that despite the new hardware and proprietary software tweaks from Google, the top-end Pixel 6 Pro significantly slower charging than Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.
