Poland signs record $700M howitzer deal with Ukraine
Poland announced a record deal on Tuesday to sell Krab self-propelled howitzers from local manufacturer Huta Stalowa Wola to Ukraine, the largest-ever export arms order for the country.
In what could be the largest-ever export order for Polish defense companies, Poland has agreed to sell about 60 Krab self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine.
Visiting one of the country’s largest arms manufacturers, Stalowa Huta, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki confirmed that Poland has signed the largest arms deal in 30 years and will supply arms worth 3 billion PLN ($700 million) for Ukraine.

He said that the new weapon will play a very important role on the battlefield in eastern Ukraine.
According to Dziennik.pl, Ukraine has received 18 Krab self-propelled howitzers as part of military aid.
The Krab is a self-propelled howitzer with a 155mm cannon. It is a combination of Korean K9 Thunder chassis with British AS-90M Braveheart turret with 52-caliber cannon and WB Electronics “Topaz” artillery fire control system.
The Krab’s design is standard for a modern self-propelled howitzer with the driver positioned on the left, the booster on the front right and the turret mounted aft of the hull. The Krab howitzer has a crew of 5. The turret and hull provide protection from small arms fire and shrapnel. It has a combat weight of about 52 tons.
Krab artillery system includes 6 Krab self-propelled howitzers, 2 ammunition supply vehicles based on truck chassis, Waran maintenance vehicle and Azalia’s C3I vehicle.
