Police arrest Barrie, Ont. man for impaired driving in downtown core – Barrie
Barrie Police said a 51-year-old man was charged with poor driving following an incident in the city center Barrie on Tuesday.
Just before 4 p.m. Tuesday, an officer on routine patrol in the area heard tires screeching in the area of Maple Avenue and Dunlop West Street, police said.
Officers reported that a car was parked in the middle of the intersection.
“The officer suspected that the driver may have impaired function, but the driver did not comply with the officer’s requests. Police were assisted by citizens at the scene until additional police arrived,” said Jennett Mays, corporate communications coordinator with the Barrie Police Department.
A 51-year-old Barrie man has been charged with driving while under the influence of drugs and assaulting a police officer.
The man has since been released from police custody with a court date scheduled for October.
“We are always concerned when we have any reports of impaired drivers and it is something that we encourage the public to always be aware of that driving after you have drunk Drugs or alcohol are not safe at any time,” Mays said.
