Predator Movies Should Keep It Simple
Recent Hulu Movies Preyprequel to the 1987 sci-fi horror film Carnivores, a young Comanche woman against a brutal alien hunter. Science fiction author Zach Chapman love the new movie.
“It’s definitely my favorite Predator movie,” Chapman said in Episode 524 of Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy audio file. “I think it’s the only movie in the series that has a theme — or at least commits to the theme in a meaningful way — and the action is super awesome.”
Prey was a success with audiences and critics, a much-needed boost to the franchise after failures like Hunter and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. Geek’s Guide to the Galaxy host David Barr Kirtley says that many of the recent Predator movies have been crammed with one-dimensional characters. “It would be interesting to graph the relationship between the number of characters with dialogue and the quality of these films,” he said, “but to me, it seems like there must be an inverse correlation.” pretty strong there.”
Prey also largely ignores an expanded Predator universe that has grown increasingly complex over the course of 35 years through movies, comic books, and video games. Horror author Stephen Graham Jones says that most viewers don’t necessarily care about the plot. “It’s like a franchise that doesn’t learn from X file that we like monster of the week,” he said. “We don’t like myths or conspiracies. We just love running and shooting.”
Horror author Theresa DeLucci hopefully future Predator movies will take a page from Prey and discover new and varied historical settings. “What do I think we can learn from Prey and some other movies are keeping it simple,” she said. “Simplify it, focus on the character, and you can do this in different ways and still resonate, because the core is, ‘The Predator. They spy on you, and how are we going to get past them? ‘”

David Barr Kirtley on Carnivores:
It’s a bunch of tough killers, and then there’s a nerd guy who says he’s a doctor who seems out of place, and then it turns out he’s a serial killer. The problem I have is that he tries to kill Alice Braga– who is this bad IDF soldier – while they’re being hunted by predators, it doesn’t make any sense. I think it would be great if they kill all the predators and then he tries to kill them. And I thought it would be great if he succeeded, and then he ended up killing everyone. And then the next group of people parachuted down, and he said, “Help! Help! You must help me! I am this helpless nerd! “It would be a different kind of carnivore, the idea that this social liar/manipulator could be the most dangerous person on the planet.
Theresa DeLucci on Aliens vs Predators:
I have fond memories of Aliens vs Predators video games. You can choose to play as a sailor colony, a xenomorph or a predator. Initially, you can only play as a seaman or an alien because your abilities are limited. But then when you unlock the predator, you become this unstoppable machine, and it’s a great, immersive story — a first-person perspective of “Oh, I’m a xenomorph. I have ‘tail pain’ and ‘fight’, and my goal is to make eggs. ” People are like, ‘I’m drunk. I have to fight everyone,” and then the predator is like hunting and whispering through the corridors, and it has all these wonderful things. Weyland-Yutani jokes. It’s definitely better than the movies.
Stephen Graham Jones on Predator: Devil’s Eyes:
I just had to write a Predator story for an anthology, and it was really fun to play in that Predator world. They gave me a very thin bible of all the different terms for all the tools and weapons and spaceships and all that, and of course I don’t use it, because I don’t interested in those things. My story is about the Predator on his ship between hunts. That’s the fun part for me. I’ve seen Carnivores hunt so many times that I don’t really care about seeing them run after their prey anymore, but I do enjoy the hunt. … It took a lot of convincing for me to do it, because I didn’t want to just do it.”Dutch in the woods.” That didn’t sound like much fun to me, so I told them I was going to do it, but I wasn’t going to tell the Predator story that we saw before.
Zach Chapman on Prey:
I want to see more of these lower budget movies. Hunter have a huge budget. I would imagine it’s four or five times my budget Prey. And what I see there is that you can make four movies like Prey. Invite directors who have experience in making smaller budget films and are knowledgeable in science fiction. Director of Prey do 10 Cloverfield Lane, that’s great. I like it significantly more Cloverfield, and it also has a zero budget. So that’s where I want to see this franchise continue. … We don’t need a big budget. All my friends watched Preyand they love it, so I think it’s done very well for Hulu. So just do this, do it more. However, you already have a lot of budget Huntergive that to all these little people and ask them to make a series of movies.
