Premier League players face two more rape charges
Sources told ESPN that a Premier League footballer who was arrested on suspicion of rape faces two more charges of assaults aimed at another woman.
The player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was questioned by London’s Metropolitan Police earlier this week and has been released on bail until an unspecified date in August.
It was previously reported that the individual – an international celebrity – was arrested in the early hours of Monday on a rape allegation that allegedly took place in June.
Then allegations of two different incidents from last year surfaced and Scotland Yard said in a statement: “On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was filed. Report to the police Report that the alleged rape took place in June 2022. On July 4, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and charged custody.
“While in custody, he continued to be arrested on suspicion of two alleged rapes committed in April and June 2021 against another woman in her 20s. He subsequently released on bail until August.
“Investigations into the situation are still ongoing.”
The player’s club declined to comment. It remains to be seen whether players will participate in their team’s pre-season games.
The Premier League season begins on August 5.
