The new one Volkswagen Amarok has been priced for Australia.
With a starting price of $50,990 before hitting the road, the starting price has increased by $5100 for 2023 – although the new Amarok promises to be a much safer, higher-tech proposition than its predecessor. with its venerable predecessor.
Three engines will be offered: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel (in two tunings), a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 and a 2.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine.
The 2.3-litre petrol engine is unique to Amarok compare to Ford Ranger with which it shares its platform.
Volkswagen will offer five trim levels: Core, Life, Style, PanAmerica and Aventura.
The premium Aventura and PanAmericana models will be available in Australia first at the end of the first quarter of 2023, followed by lower-end models.

engine
The entry-level TDI405 engine in the Amarok is a 2.0 liter single-cylinder four-cylinder diesel engine do 125kW power and 405Nm of torque. It’s sent to the road via a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, along with a 4Motion all-wheel drive system with selectable 2H, 4H and 4L modes.
TDI500 has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine do 154kW power and 500Nm torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and selectable all-wheel drive.
TDI600 pack one 3.0 liter turbocharged diesel V6 do 184kW power and 600Nm torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
The only petrol option is the TSI452, which is a Turbocharged 2.3-litre petrol engine do 222kW power and 452Nm of torque. It’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Final fuel economy figures for the Amarok have not been released for Australia. In the closely related Ford Ranger, the TDI405 uses 8.0 liters per 100 km on the combined cycle.
The TDI500 uses 7.2 liters per 100km and the TDI600 uses 8.4 liters per 100km.
All models will have an 80L fuel tank, and TDI models now have a 19.3L AdBlue tank instead of the old car’s 6.3L tank.

The new Amarok measures 5350mm in length, an increase of 96mm over the previous model. It has a wheelbase of 3270mm, a width of 1910mm and a height of 1888mm.
The brake towing capacity is up to 3500kg and has a combined total mass of 6500kg. Load capacity up to 1200kg depending on model.
The wading depth has been increased from 500 to 800mm and thanks to the now shorter overhang, the forward approach angle is now 29 degrees, departure angle is 21 degrees and ramp angle is 21 degrees.
Service and Warranty
The Amarok comes with the same 5-year, unlimited-km warranty as the wider Volkswagen range.
Service price has not been confirmed.
Safety
The new Amarok has not been crash tested by Euro NCAP or ANCAP.
The related Ford Ranger has a five-star safety rating, suggesting the same could happen to the Amarok.
