Prince Charles cancels aircraft carrier visit after British fighter plane crash
Cairo:
Britain’s Prince Charles has canceled a scheduled visit to the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth after an F35B jet from the ship plunged into the Mediterranean Sea.
An F35 fighter jet from Britain’s largest aircraft carrier plunged into the Mediterranean Sea on Wednesday, although the pilot ejected and was safely returned to the ship.
Charles, on a visit to Egypt, visited the ship off the coast of Alexandria. But the visit to the ship was canceled for operational reasons, a spokesman said.
The British Air Force says that the Lockheed Martin F35B is capable of simultaneously performing air-to-ground, electronic warfare, intelligence-gathering and air-to-air missions. It can operate undetected in hostile airspace due to covert technology.
