PS1 and PSP games get new emulation features on PlayStation 5
While there’s still a month left in the Americas, New PlayStation Plus will go live in select Asian regions on May 24th. With just a few days left, some games have already started Available on PlayStation Store Malaysia. While some classic games will be included in the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription tier, players who have not subscribed to the service will also be able to purchase and play classic games on an individual basis.
These emulator titles are not just old versions of the games you remember, now available on your expensive, hard-to-find PlayStation 5. They come with some unique emulation features you can expect, like rewind and save states. YouTuber Mystic tested Strange world: Abe’s Odyssey – the only game out at the time of this writing – to see how it plays on PlayStation 5.
In Mystic’s video, he shows off settings for video filter presets and aspect ratios, rewinds to break out of hard spots or reverses failed jumps, and saves states to fix some glitches. PlayStation’s early disappointment – most of these games date from an era where players had to find save points to save their progress. There are also graphics settings, allowing fans to experience the game as they remember it, with a classic classic sweep or a more “modern” look with less exposure.
The prices on the Malaysian store also seem relatively fair for older games. Abe’s Odysseywhen converting from Malaysian currency to US, the player will run about 4.56 dollars. Worms Apocalypse costs slightly more and will cost US audiences around $8.89. (PlayStation will most likely round these prices up or down in their home market.) Players who already purchased any of these games on PlayStation 3 or Vita will not need to purchase them again.
Some of these games will have titles, but they don’t appear to be guaranteed or required – Abe’s Odyssey does not provide title, but Bend Studios has revealed that Syphon filter will.
Sony has revealed the list of classic games comes with Premium and Deluxe PS Plus packages. However, the list is clearly not exhaustive as the Malaysian store provided it Oddworld: Abe’s Odyssey, not in the list. There is also artwork showing PSP’s Ridge Racer 2 will appear on the platform, although Sony has yet to make any official announcements.
Here’s the full list of PS1 and PSP classics that have been announced:
