Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu overcame young compatriot Malvika Bansod in consecutive matches to win her second women’s singles title at the Syed Modi International badminton tournament this coming Sunday. Playing on a field exhausted by multiple COVID-19 cases, top seed Sindhu barely broke a sweat to beat Bansod 21-13 21-16 in a title clash. The final match lasted only 35 minutes. It was the former world champion Sindhu’s second Syed Modi title following the merger of the BWF World Tour Super 300 event in 2017.
Earlier, Indian seventh seeds Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto claimed the mixed doubles title with consecutive wins over compatriots T Hema Nagendra Babu and Srivedya Gurazada.
Bhatnagar and Crasto made it 21-16 21-12 against the naked Indian duo in a climactic clash that ended in 29 minutes.
Earlier, the men’s singles final between Arnaud Merkle and Lucas Claerbout was declared ‘No Match’ after one of the finalists tested positive for COVID-19.
