R. Kelly’s album sales and streams hit new highs after he convicted of fraud and sex trafficking.
Rolling Stone report The disgraced singer’s album sales have grown 517 percent since the ruling was made on September 27. More specifically, Kelly’s music has seen double-digit growth in hits. listening and triple-digit growth in sales.
In the week following the guilty verdict, Kelly’s on-demand audio streams increased 22%, while video streams increased 23% from seven days earlier. Overall, his live streams increased from 11.2 million to 13.4 million, according to Rolling Stone.
The sales and streaming numbers come as YouTube announced earlier this week that it would be removing two of Kelly’s official video channels – RKellyTV and his Vevo account. That said, the video streaming service will continue to offer Kelly’s catalog on its audio arm, YouTube Music.
Despite the gruesome details and graphics that have popped up over the past few years, and during a test run in New York, R. Kelly’s streaming numbers have yet to come to fruition. In 2017, he averaged about 5.4 million on-demand audio streams per week. Those numbers have grown to 6.4 million this year.
