If you’ve spent any time on YouTube before, you’re probably aware of the Raycon Daily Headphones, which have been advertised by all the influencers currently walking the planet. planet Earth. As WIRED resident headset reviewers, they sound like content creators receiving grants to help pay for cameras and editing. Those plastic-looking buds can’t be good, can they?
At the behest of a colleague and with some genuine curiosity, I decided to buy myself a pair of $80 in-ear headphones on Amazon and give them a try. They’re not the best I’ve ever used, but my experience has shown that we don’t necessarily judge a book by its cover. The color I am impressed with these buds.
They’re small and have good battery life, their compact charging case, and IPX6 sweat and water resistance ratings make them perfectly usable, uh… everyday. If you’re looking for a briefcase with a small carrying case that you won’t have to worry too much about when exercising, I’d still probably go for something cheaper. JLab buds. But if you see someone wearing these around town or you’ve already bought some, know they’re still better. Standard AirPods.

Raycon is a brand obsessed with being seen. It has an entire section on its website exclusively for celebrities who have worn one version of the headset or another. It might just be an attempt to prove to prospective buyers that they didn’t throw them in for a quick photo before resetting. Professional AirPods. Then again, who knows? Some of these celebs might actually like headphones just as much as I do.

Especially if you’re coming from Raycon’s older, bulkier buds (the company regularly updates these without… really telling anyone, but this is a late 2022 model), then the Headphones Perfectly suitable everyday earplugs. They come in a compact, egg-shaped charging case that fits easily in my pocket and supports wireless charging. You get about 24 hours of charge from the carrying case, with the buds holding on for about 8 hours on their own (depending on the volume you listen to). Passive noise isolation is comparable to mild noise cancellation, but there isn’t any active noise cancellation going on here.
