Receiver Tireek Hill, enabled by the Kansas City Captain, will play Week 16 against the Pittsburgh Steelers
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Wide receiver Tireek Hill was activated on Saturday by Chief of Kansas City off the bench / COVID-19 and will play in Sunday’s match against Pittsburgh Steelers at Arrowhead Stadium.
The chiefs also move closely Travis Kelce and two other players – linebacker Nick Bolton and handle attack Lucas Niang — to their active roster in the hopes they can clear the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols in time to take on the Steelers in a crucial game.
The captain will be without at least five players on Sunday who will remain on their COVID-19 roster. Kicker Harrison Butker and punter Tommy Townsend in that group. The Chiefs signed Elliott Fry as their kicker and promoted Townsend’s brother Johnny from their practice team to battle them against the Steelers.
Neither Hill, who led the Chiefs in receptions, yards and receiving touchdowns, nor Kelce practiced all week. But they mostly participate in team meetings and quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes said there would be no problem for them to play.
“Those guys got a lot of rep with me,” Mahomes said. “Obviously, it’s a really complicated defense that we’re up against and they’ve played it a couple of times even before I’m here. So for me, as long as they’re healthy and they’re there, it’s okay. safe and they’ve passed the protocols and they’re back, we’ll throw them back into the offense. They’ll be able to take on the roles they’ve always had.”
